You might expect the world’s most active NFT marketplace to already be deployed on the fastest blockchain in production, yet Magic Eden has yet to arrive on Sei. With recent support for Apechain, many in the Sei community are wondering, “Wen Magic Eden on Sei?”
This question has become routine for Bint, a Sei Network OG and team member at Fuckers, who has reportedly asked it every day for the past 77 days. Call it dedication or obsession, but could the wait be almost over?
The question then is… Why the wait?
Why Magic Eden Hasn’t Deployed on Sei Yet
The primary challenge comes down to Sei’s structure. Sei is natively a Cosmos chain with added EVM compatibility. For a marketplace like Magic Eden, supporting both Cosmos and EVM sides of Sei makes sense. However, most Sei NFTs were originally minted on the Cosmos side, and pointing these contracts to EVM has been problematic. As a workaround, some collections have opted to burn their Cosmos NFTs and remint them on the EVM side.
This presents challenges: not everyone is willing to burn and remint, and some projects fail to keep the community informed. In cases where founders choose to airdrop new NFTs to holders, users must link their Sei wallet to a compatible EVM address, creating a complex UX that collectors and project founders must navigate.
Mrkt, one of the native marketplaces on Sei, has ceased operations. Although OpenSea and a few other marketplaces support Sei NFTs, they only cater to EVM, leaving over 90% of Sei’s Cosmos NFTs unserved. Pallet, the leading NFT marketplace on Sei, handles native NFTs but doesn’t yet fully support Sei’s EVM-based NFTs.
The Solution in the Works
To ensure inclusivity, Magic Eden decided to consult with a third party to build support for both EVM and Cosmos NFTs on Sei from day one—a first of its kind, which has taken longer than anticipated. This isn’t an effort to frustrate the Sei community or simply to engage “Wen” discussions. In fact, the Magic Eden team shares a strong connection with Sei, and some team members even use Sei NFTs as their X (Twitter) profile pictures.
“Others have only supported V2 on Sei. We’re supporting both V1 and V2 so the ecosystem can thrive in harmony. Magic Eden is the last airbender.” — Vohvohh
So… Wen Magic Eden on Sei?
It seems we’re just days away. This is no longer a question of “if,” but “wen.” And that “wen” is nearly here. When the green light is given, we’ll finally see the Magic Eden experience on Sei.
